Hiden Analytical will be attending CHESS2026 from 26-30 January 2026, at the Hotel Excelsior Congress Centre, Bari, Italy.ย
The fifth edition of CHESS โ the School on Conventional and High-Energy Spectroscopies for Inorganic, Organic and Biomolecular Surfaces and Interfaces brings together researchers to explore advanced methods for surface and interface characterization. CHESS2026 offers an in-depth overview of key spectroscopic, microscopic, diffraction, and spatially resolved techniques, with a special focus on synchrotron-based methods. The program combines expert lectures, practical tutorials for newcomers, and real-world industrial case studies, making it an invaluable opportunity for scientists working in surface and materials analysis.
Why attend?
- A comprehensive tutorial-style programme covering surface characterisation by spectroscopies, microscopies, diffraction, and spatially-resolved analyses
- A dedicated session oriented towards synchrotron and high-energy techniques, including practical guidance for non-experts to apply for beam time
- A rich mix of academic and industrial case-studies: real-world interfaces and surfaces in inorganic, organic and biomolecular systems.
- An abstract & poster session (with prizes!) allowing you to present your own research, network with peers and industry, and get exposure.
For anyone working in surface science, thin-films, coatings, materials interfaces, nanostructures or biomolecular/organic interfaces, this is an excellent opportunity to refresh fundamentals, discover instrumentation advances, and engage with leading experts.

We are delighted to share that Graham Cooke will be giving a talk on the development of simultaneous dual-polarity SIMS instrumentation and its applications. Graham will discuss how our dual-polarity workflow enables the capture of positive and negative secondary ion signals in a single analysis, thereby providing a fuller chemical picture of surfaces and interfaces.
Aldo Conti of AC Scientific, will also be on hand throughout the event to discuss how our SIMS and mass spectrometry solutions support cutting-edge materials and surface science research.
